The girls (+ Matt) are still on top!

Hey groovers – well, the points board still has us on top – can you believe it, we rule!!  We know that Maru got 20 extra points than us because they had the numbers at Latino last week so it just goes to show how well we are doing in terms of gym visits – that’s awesome!!  + the bonus points for 4 v 8 different classes over a month will be tallied over the next few days so hopefully we get max on these as well.

I personally haven’t represented well in the “8 classes over the month” category, with only doing 4 over a month.  However!!  I have a solid plan to ensure I do 8 during July.  I think we could attack these classes together – especially if we’re a bit worried about any of them (for me the prospect of “activefit” is terrifying!).  And there’s another class being introduced this week – a pump style class called “Re-flex”.  We all know how important strength training is so this strength class will work nicely into your week.  So when you need someone to join you at a class, flick out an email to the group and one of the 10 of us will be there!

Keep up the AMAZING effort girls (+Matt), we’re caning this.  And how good does it feel?!

I’m at boxing tonight… might see you there.

Cheers

last chance for group fitness points

Whats Up people!!??!!

As we near the end of our first calendar month, the oppurtunity to get max points for your team are getting slim!!

Wednesday 30th June is last day of the month so last chance saloon for group fitness points.

Remember its 8 DIFFERENT classes for 10 points, and for 5 points you only need 4 different classes, so you can even get that done in the next 2 days if your committed!!

Watch this space for “re:flex” pump classes coming soon on Mondays and Wednesday evenings @ 6.30pm…

I have 5 spots for the Demo class tomorrow night at 6.30 so first in first served send me an email on justinw@genesisfitness.co.nz to get a limited spot for the test class tomorrow night

We had a hilarious night at latino last week and I think we all had fun and we all had a crack up watching each other do the ‘swivel’.

Try and remember the moves and we will get it together for a team dance off later in the competition

We are now 5 weeks in folks,  and I am more than pleased as to how its going and you can all give yourselves a pat on the back. Its tough going, but the team trainings and commraderie is something to be admired,  and remember you point whores out there… its all about fun so

No bonus poitnts this week but high 5’s to those doing tough guy tough girl this weekend… represent Genesis with plenty of gusto and mudslinging competitiveness!!!

Keep up the blogging and remember if your PT isnt doing the business… give them a flogging

RE: Hmmm I just ate a chocolate chip biscuit

I'm def keen, but might be doing the Rotorua one instead now and an Xterra run on the 3rd July in Auckland instead.  Group of us planning on Rotorua (about 7 people so far) for 7th August if you're keen.

HEY don’t know if I agree with the below statement!!! Naa it was fun and while I was definitely doing my own thing I felt like I had had a workout!

Had final bootcamp this morning and managed to drag my rear up tha F…n hill at 6.00am! Then some fool decided we all needed a beer after the class so I had a Heineken for breakfast! So today will definitely be my day off….

Why are you piking tomorrow Helen – hope u have a damn good excuse!!!

Is anyone doing the tough gal comp??

Basically anything with a load of cream and lard and carbs in it will do…

Honestly… I can’t get the thought out of my head – it’s a Friday thing.  How will I last!

I’ll have a protein shake instead… that’s all I have available without trudging out into the rain.

So Latino last night was pretty funny.  Megs is a natural, Steph does her own thing and is damn convincing (and just a little bit hilarious) about it, Jacqc’s got a “whoop whoop diddy wop” from the instructor – result! – while Ellen, Truds, Lisa and I just tried to move to get some sort of sweat on.   Truds don’t be embarrassed – I’m sure you’re normally a hit on the dancefloor!

So we’re thinking of having a half-way drinks night at week 6 (are we there yet?!) to get some more team bonding going and ensure we’ve got enough motivation between us all to get through to the end – will be a good time to chat about what we need from each other.

I can’t make it to Johnny’s punishment session tomorrow morning but this will be the last Sat morn sesh I pike out of (honest).  But will see you on Monday night!

Have a great weekend girls + Matt.

RE: God I feel like a pie

Know the feeling...........the biscuit tin's calling me!

Yep, keen for a 6 week celebration - controlled of course ;-)

What about drinks at the Villager after our Monday session 5th or 12th July or breakfast (Benson Rd Cafe?) after a Sat session, 10th July?  Or are we going to do it separately from training days?

Last night was too funny - you missed out Johnny although it seems you were dying to join us!  Glad I don't get that sweaty on a night out!

So that was class number 6 for me - 7 is going to be Pilates 9am Sat morning.  Ellen's coming, anyone else keen to stay on after out team training?

RE: Exercise = tick : eating - not so much

It's only day 3 (!), but so far I've been good with my eating this week!  Re-introduced carbs at breakfast and lunch (2 eggs+spinach on 2 x multigrain toast, veg soup with smoked chicken added and 1 x multigrain toast) which has stopped me reaching for the biscuit tin and given me more energy for evening training.  No carbs after 6pm though....which is still a tough one as I watch Steve tuck in to creamy mash and packets of biscuits!  Out for dinner and a film tonight - need to make good choices and stay away from the pick n mix!!

I've done 4 different group classes...........not sure I'll squeeze another 4 in by next Wed.  But will be there tomorrow night and I've heard the new pump-like class starts 6.30pm next Wed.

Many thanks,
Jacque

Hey guys, how you all doing?  How’s the week’s training going.

I’m starting to notice a trend with our group – we’re AWESOME at training and we’re all pretty happy with how we’re tracking with our exercise – and it’s why we’re winning the comp so far (and will continue to of course).  But it’s the eating we’re having a few struggles with.

I had a catchup with Tarryn yesterday and once again, it freaked me right out.  Turns out 4 really good days are quickly negated by 3 bad days.  While I planned a “day off” on Friday and had a pretty big blow out, it resulted in really lazy behaviour over the weekend – badly thought out meals and no exercise.  So my major lesson for last week is 4 great days isn’t enough, I need to get serious about this and not let all my good work go to waste by letting old behaviour creep back in.  And realistically I felt fantastic last week and was proud of what I was doing, but after Friday I felt lethargic and grumpy all weekend and have only really started feeling good about this challenge again today… that’s a long mental recovery period.

So this Friday I have another social event planned but instead of downing a bottle of wine on an empty stomach and then trying to backpeddle my way to sobriety by scoffing burger fuel (which at the time I reasoned was a healthy option), I will have first have a healthy meal, then only a few drinks with waters in between.  Saturday I’m out of town and at a kids party so will avoid the junk food by taking my own salad and will be a good Aunty and play with the kids instead of standing round with the adults eating junk.

Anyways, that’s enough about me… how are you guys addressing your eating anxieties?

Let’s take this to the next level!!

Team Septu blogg

Well, I have had a few firsts over these first three weeks.

*It is the very first time I have ever blogged.

*Three weeks is the longest amount of time I have ever stuck at going to
the gym in over 10 years!

*I have had my 1st ever week of having no carbs for dinner. I have
really had to stop myself more than once from getting
chocolates/cookies, anything that I can get my hands on, for that after
dinner snack. I know I shouldn't have them in the pantry(I bought them
for the kids).

*I have gone to my 1st ever yoga session. I felt a iittle out of it when
I couldn't do some of the exercises. They looked so simple!

So thanks Team Septu for all your encouragement & support so far. It's
been fantastic. Exercising with a team has been great. I would normally
have given up on exercise by now.

Thanks also Johnny for the push, time & commitment.

ALWAYS COUNTING DOWN

LISA

The week that was

Posted this morning but says yesterday so will try again!! Went to gym x 7 this week so all good and tried hard with diet so on the whole another good week!

YEAH  my clothes are getting looser!

Hope to see you all tomorrow – Helen don’t forget your tunes! And Matt hope you have ditched the skirt!!

Steph

J

Hi Everyone - not looking forward to completing my honesty sheet today - is it really Friday already and confession time!  Again good with exercise this week but very bad with eating....everything!  Starting to realise that to reach my goal at the end of the 12 weeks I really need more discipline on the eating front as I can't do it with exercise alone.  So starting Monday I'm writing an eating plan and sticking to it.....even if I go out for dinner (ouch!).

Won't be at team training tomorrow as doing a 12k off-road run in Whakatane, followed by mountain biking in Rotorua Sunday - hoping this'll be a good start to a good week.  Also, completed 3 different classes but I'm going for the big 8 this month!  So going to plan these in and will email you all to see who's keen for the same classes.

Well done everyone so far - half-way through the 1st month and the new habits are starting to form.  And the best thing is we're winning!!

Nearly 2 weeks and it has gone pretty quickly!  The motivation to make it to the gym most mornings to get the team more points definitely helps when it is freezing out of bed J Loving the sessions on Mondays with Johnny (thanks)! However am unable to make tomorrow’s as I’m going away for the weekend, but will be rearing to go come Monday night again J

Glad to hear you are all doing really well, let’s keep this motivation up and continue to see Team Septu at the top of the points board!!

Tarryn

been a good week but knees are sore..

Repost as I forgot to sign my name

Had a good week with eating, though excersize has been less frequent but of higher intensity..  Looking forward to Saturday training with the team.  Greatly appreciating Helen’s hard work as the captain of the team.  The amount of email is a little overwhelming however..

Matt

Week 3

Hey Guys

Week three is almost over – Only 9 to go!!!! Time flies when your having fun huh :P

Sorry I missed our session on Monday- but looking forward to tomorrow morn!!

I’m going to do spin on sun morn at 9:30 if anyone is game??

Lessons Learnt This Week

1. One must really clench fist when punching to avoid wrist injury!!

2. Group fitness = better work out (when competing with yourself, its way to easy to slack off)

3. One can only have so many steamed meals before you go Loony!

4. Water is my friend- thanks Matt J

5. Boxing is a great way to relieve work stress (but do refer to lesson 1. for health and safety reasons)

6. Team Septu ROCKS, still leading the point’s race J

See you all bright and early tomorrow morning!!

Megs J

The good is outweighing the bad...

2 and a bit weeks in and these are my thoughts (I do like a good bullet point list…):

GOOD

·         Sleeping like a rock – my alarm went off this morning and I had zero idea what was going on – was it Monday, was it Saturday and I could sleep in… nope it was Friday, result!

·         Energy levels are fantastic… I’m at risk of smothering friends, families and distant strangers with my enthusiasm.  From the outside looking in, I’m annoyingly happy.

·         This is easier than I thought it would be

·         Boring meals are really fast and easy to cook!

BAD

·         Boring meals – who has time to think about how to put some rock and roll into broccoli?

·         A smelly washing basket – ouf!!  And geez, exercising everyday sure creates a lot of washing… and you can’t let that stuff lay around… very anti-social

QUESTIONS TO ANSWER

·         Still need to figure out mid-afternoon eating to avoid dizzy spells / blank head sensation at tough evening training sessions

·         Will I stay this motivated for the next 2 months?

·         How will I turn this intense 3 month program into a lifestyle?

·         Will we ever meet the mystical Kate & Jo?!!

Helen

been a good week but knees are sore..

Had a good week with eating, though excersize has been less frequent but of higher intensity..  Looking forward to Saturday training with the team

Friday morning....

Right, best get in and get my blog done for day before I get distracted....
Did Spin last night, and simply ran out of juice to do Latino afterwards. Will be better next Thurs and try to manage both. Quick chat to Helen about  the joys of brocolli before going home to seafood chowder - although didnt add the required cream and only a touch of spud.
Muscles still recovering from PT session on Weds night - abs are sore to the touch! Not to mention agony when I sneeze.
Hope to see you at 7am in the morning.....

Ellen

PS Steph - your blog comes up as Thursday, although from the content, obvious you posted it today, not sure what happening there.  Hope we get the Friday points for it!

Get those points

So I raced on last night before checking all the emails to only find out we get the pts for todays blogging!

Went to bootcamp today – it was cold brrrrr

Hope to see everyone tomorrow at 7

Have a good day –don’t be tempted by hot chips and wine tonight!

Steph

mc2

Went to my first mc2 class today – wow it was great and over so fast – great as a quick workout

steph

Lessons learnt this week

1.        Steamed half-raw broccoli and grilled chicken does not a meal make

2.        One hour of pilates followed immediately by 1 hour of intense boxing on an empty stomach = recipe for disaster and potential roadkill

3.       Weighing myself everyday will not in itself mean I am getting skinny

4.       Passing out in a spin class is something I will do my best to avoid

5.       Not everyone’s name is Steph: Learn my team members names so I don’t call Jacqui Steph and I don’t call the gym receptionist Steph

6.       Getting distracted by Johnny’s tight pants and tight shirt will inhibit my ability to give 100% to my training session

7.       Never believe Juddy’s personal recommendation for t-shirt sizing until I am comfortable with skin-tight clothing

Bonus points up for grabs!!!

Morning to you Evo Die hards out there!!!

Just a small wee update about the 12 week challenge, getting some rules all sorted and general feedback

The first few weeks seemed to be the seeding of some very strong teams at the moment. Every team has there own little style, a celebrity appearance of the god zeus, some very intense workouts from Septu, and group Pilates for Minerva. Points have been dished out fairly and I have done it like this

· All attendance recorded by all members is recorded in our membership software and is transported to a spreadsheet and checked by myself

· All attendance times are observed to counteract the ‘double beepers’ trying to score an extra visit

· If you come in and go to a class it is recorded as a gym session AND a group fitness session

· You must do 8 DIFFERENT classes in a calendar month (1st June – 31st June for first month allotments) to get maximum points.

· I will tally group fitness at the end of the month as it gives everyone till the doors close on the 31st to gain points

Any more questions you can always flick a quick email to justinw@genesisfitness.co.nz and ill blurt more details

BONUS POINTS

If you blog on your team site Friday 18th between the hours of 7am and 9 pm you will get 3 bonus points per team member blog.

It can be about anything you decide as long as you post it on your team and put your name at the bottom ( remember no footers)

If everyone in your team has put in a blog and I check it on the team manifest, I will issue a bonus 10 points for getting EVERY team member to blog.

It’s a team event so rally your troops and don’t take no for an answer. How hard is an email. And before you think of posting muliple blogs for all your team I can check email addresses so try not be too sneaky, the watchful eye is ever present.

Let your fingers do the talking

I'm obsessed with weighing myself!

I know Johnny has told me not to do this, but I can’t help myself – every night I get excited about what number I will see the next morning (and let’s face it, I’m a numbers girl…).

And how often do you see the number reducing instead of increasing.  It’s working for me Johnny… I’m goin’ with it!  And also my jeans are getting slighter looser – haven’t yet had the courage to get my skinny jeans out of the drawer though – might send me plummeting to a depressive foetal position.

Did spin class last night and according to my heart rate monitor I burned just over 1,000 calories – it was awesome, a couple of dizzy moments which is reasonably unnerving given there’s not many soft places to fall, but a great blowout class.  If anyone is keen for 6pm Thursday (Leigh’s class), let me know and I’ll book us in – the class is now super popular.

See you at boxing tonight!!

RE: Latino dancing!

Yup the Latino Dancing was definitely quite entertaining! It would be great to have a bigger team turnout, if nothing else just for a laugh! It is a good work out though, everyone had quite the sweat on, and for a bit of grooving and shaking it was a fun work out.

Latino dancing!

Oh my goodness - didnt quite realise what was up for last night, and after a few uncomfortable wiggles, and a bit of a wobble, managed to at least try and get into the groove. The enthusiasm of the instructor was hard to avoid - she was great! (not to mention a physique to be proud of).

Tarryn and myself flew the flag for Team Septu, and I only hope the hidden cameras were on her and not me as my technique left a little to be desired. Have never felt like my feet could be so confused.

Look forward to seeing more of Team Septu there next week! (there were a few other Team t-shirts in the crowds, wouldnt want them to overtake us now would we?).

1 week (and a bit) in

I had a session with Tarryn last night and turns out I’ve put ON weight!  How is that possible?  I blame the jeans and the belt…  Damn that 3 day weekend of misbehaviour.

But nothing like a big fail to keep me motivated.  I went to the movies last night with the girls with a feed at Wagamama beforehand.  I asked for my meal without rice and the waitress thought I was mad in the head – I didn’t bother explaining myself.  It’s quite amusing how small a $19 meal is without rice.  Then the girls sat in the movie eating lollies, popcorn and icecreams and I demonstrated DISCIPLINE (!!!, never one of my strengths) and didn’t have a thing.  How well behaved is that?!

Even though my results aren’t that good this week in terms of weight loss, I’m feeling really comfortable that I can do this.  Seeing Tarryn could have felt like I had a lot of options pulled away from me, but actually it makes things simpler and sets up some really clear rules.  I prefer things black and white – I wouldn’t be where I am today if I hadn’t incorporated too much “grey” into my lifestyle.  And the recipes look great, there’s enough variation in there for the next 12 weeks and from there I will hopefully have left bread and cheese behind!

RE: Water and food - Help enormously..

Good work Matt – glad to see u r posting on the blog – perhaps we should communicate that way from here on in as we get points!

Subject: Water and food - Help enormously..

Did the boxing class last night and learnt some pretty massive things first hand..

Firstly, there is nothing more disgusting that leaving your boxing gloves at home and using some that are still wet with someone else’s sweat.  I may purchase a pair and permanently leave them in the car so I never have to go through that again..

Secondly, even though I have been struggling to shake this cold – flu thing, I have been focusing on getting hydrated, and drinking small but often.  Although eating is not 100% on track yet, eating subway mid afternoon meant when I hit the boxing last night it was a way different experience than the week before.  Instead of feeling about halfway through that I might not be able to finish, I made my way through the whole session not pulling punches and not pulling off the accelerator.  Bit sore today but not as shattered as last week.

So take on board the stuff you’ve heard because from a slack eater, and more slack water drinker.. it has massive effect.

congratulations on the first week!!

I must say people well done and a big round of fist pumps and high fives for all Teams!!

I have been well and truly encouraged by the vigour in which all teams and taking on all matters of competitveness and eager gym attendance

The scores have been posted and it looks like Team Septu will take out first weeks honours with a total of 27 points as the first weeks totals.

The other teams points come in like this

·         Team Athena 24

·         Team Minerva 24

·         Team Zeus 26

·         Team Maru 25

·         Team Ares 26

If it seems like low points never fear my loyal subjects (according to Zeus, in the baddest lightening storm ever indoors!!), because we will be having MAJOR special rounds, the kind that make you go all out to achieve, can make a team in last place leap to the front of the pack and alike.

So keep your eyes firmly fixed on this blog and your training efforts.

P.S all group fitness points will be calculated at the end of each month to avoid confusion and give people the last ditch effort to accumulate points, it can be done

Till then enjoy yourselves and remember its about you and your team

Hi team,

For those of you who haven’t had their BIA’s (body analysis reading) at discover yet, I would advise that you call to book in for this week sometime to get your start results and have those goals to work towards over the next 12 weeks.  At the nutrition seminar tomorrow night we will also be going over the BIA reading and specific markers in it to be aware of.

Our details are 09 3033717

See you all tomorrow J

Tarryn

Hi team Septu. I thought I’d get us started on this blogging biz.

I am personally feeling pretty nervous about this 12 week challenge. I have never done anything like this before, but there was nothing more motivating (or depressing?!) than getting the results of my BIA test on Monday night. I figure the more I engage in all aspects of this process the better results I will achieve and I aim to come out the other side of this challenge with some permanent lifestyle changes.

Let’s do this!

Some guidelines around the blogging

1 more thing folks

The team blog is a great way to let the team know where you are at with your training, how you are managing your food etc.  It is a forum board to let the world know how you are doing.  Sometimes there can be no greater motivation to avoiding that takeaway hit than knowing you will have to confess to your team on your weekly blog..  Talk with your team members and find out how you want to use it and how you can make it best work for you.

One of the great features of the blog is the ability to post comments against a post.  This means that someone can post an idea, and then everyone can make comments against that post.  To do this, simply click the comments link under a post on the blog site.

We will also use the blogs to post information about the challenge, so check it regularly.

Finally some tips on posting... make sure you remove any auto signatures on your email before posting otherwise these will be posted as well and make the blog look a little scrappy.  Because of the way that we have the posting working, you will not be able to email pictures or videos directly. These will need to be uploaded to youtube or picassa (or other online media hosts) and then we can link them in..  any questions just flick us an email at bloghelp@genesisfitness.co.nz and we will get back to you.

Hope this helps

Juddy
